Supplements (electron acceptors and nutrients) are injected into the contaminated groundwater using an array of injection wells. Advection and dispersion in the aquifer enhanced spreading of the supplements building reactive zones with enhanced biodegradation activity of indigenous microorganisms (in situ reactive zone, IRZ^®). The technology is applicable for the treatment of all aerobic or anaerobic degradable organic as well as inorganic pollutants.
